The Nashorn was built off the chassis of the Panzer Iv while using the transmission and drive wheel from the Panzer III. It was built in response to the need to mount larger AT guns on an armoured vehicle and saw success in action, especially in the Eastern front where use could be made of the gun’s long range performance.
